Annienew1.jpg (21207 bytes) I’m Annie, a black flying fox (Pteropus alecto) and the oldest lady of the Bat House. Born in 1986, I was found as a wild orphan by a Professor at James Cook University in Townsville. He hand reared me and brought me later to the Bat House so that I could live with a colony, as we flying foxes are very social creatures. I have had 8 babies who have been released to the wild. I am the matriarch in the bat enclosure and – of course – don’t tolerate any nonsense from the male bats who all adore me. ( Bat House)

I am the loveliest of the bats (ask anybody !) and I like to be cuddled a lot. I am  pregnant (and very fat) at this time and always hungry (I have to feed the pup, havent I ?) (Nell)
