The Bat House in 2005

A pretty poor year for the Bat House with visitor numbers down from 14,689 in 2004 to 10,979 in 2005, a decrease of 3,710 (or 25%). Mind you, other local business also report a large drop in visitor numbers. Of our visitors in 2005, 8,943 were adults, 1,200 were children and 1,286 seeking information only.
The Bat House was open for a total of 309 days (6 more than 2004!).

Several changes were made with a larger area put aside for our sales section. Some new stickers (Guano Happens and I Love Bats) came in.

Unfortunately becuase of the policies of Queensland's Departments of Health and the Environmental Protection Agency visitors are no longer allowed to handle the flying foxes. Whilst we regret this decision we encourage everyone to learn more about these animals that increasingly are being suspected of being primates and thus the closest relatives to humans on the australian continent.

Tony spent most of the year (193 days) in the Bat House assisted by many of the volunteers, with Sarah (From Ireland, 22 days), Adou (France, 22 Days), Jenny (Germany, 16 Days) and Hilde (Sweden, 13 Days) doing their bit. Hugh spent 19 days in the Bat House and Monica 22.

Outstanding amongst the FFs this year was Rex who's been around for years and raised a total of $3,583 in donations over 53 days in attendance, well outstripping any of the others based on his per diem performance
For the record, the days in attendance by the FFs were
